Before Our Collaboration

Recently, much of our work has focused on transforming stark, colourless fences with artificial green wall panels. Our extensive experience with these installations has allowed us to develop innovative techniques, including a method to create freestanding faux green walls that avoid damaging the existing fence.

These experiences have helped us hone our ability to foresee the outcomes of similar projects. And we usually get it right.

When this client approached us, we agreed that an artificial vertical garden would help them achieve their goals. The client had a vision and an urgent need for more privacy from his next-door neighbours.

The Problem

As our client was preparing their backyard for the warmer months, a time when outdoor spaces become gathering points, they thought the yard wasn’t living up to its full potential. When they erected the fence, they hadn’t thought it might be too low to cause them to feel exposed.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened. The colourbond fence didn’t cover everything the client wanted. It was simply too short.

And with a pool as the centre of all summer happenings, they yearned for a private retreat and a bit more seclusion. Not to mention that the existing fence was monotonous and provided no visual arrest at all.

Yet, replacing the entire fence was an unnecessary and costly endeavour. They needed something to extend the fence’s height without any heavy construction. This sent them down a rabbit hole in the search for alternative options to provide privacy and a fresh look.

During the Process
the process of installing green wall panels on colourbond fence

The client had an idea to raise the height of the fence but didn’t know how. While researching for options, they came across a few photos from an artificial vertical garden and thought it a clever way to decorate an outdoor space. Still, they weren’t sure if it was feasible to extend the fence in this manner.

They contacted our team and shared their vision with us. While we understood what they needed, we hadn’t done a similar project before and viewed it as a challenge, especially logistics-wise.

The client’s requirements were clear: they needed a solution that would provide more privacy and cover the existing fence with something more attractive. This is always the first step for our projects – making sure our clients know what they want and how they want it. And this client did, so it was up to us to step up to the plate.

The Solution

The client decided to adorn one side of the fence with artificial green wall panels and the other with paneling. They thought the contrast from green to light brown would add depth to the poolside, and that it did.

The client first had to measure their existing fence and calculate the number of artificial garden panels needed to cover it. For clients who want to do the project themselves, you can make use of our online panel calculator for accurate measurements. Of course, we always suggest to double-check yourself to ensure you have enough coverage for oddly-shaped areas.

Next, they installed horizontal beams at the top, extending them above the existing fence to reach the desired height. With the wooden framework in place, the installers aligned the faux green wall panels against the wooden beams and installed them by following the steps in our installation guide.

The team started from the top of the fence and worked their way down until the entire surface was enveloped in greenery.

Then, they turned their attention to another unique feature – the door to the poolside on the edge of the fence they were working on. The team also covered the door with the same faux green wall and because it blended so well, it disappeared into the wall when it closed.

The installation process went smoothly, and the result was a fence that extended the height and created a poolside that was easy on the eye. And all of this using only our Luxury lush spring recycled vertical garden panels.

After the Process

The completed project was a success. The client now had a taller fence, more privacy and will benefit from saving time and money from upkeep.

The artificial green wall became a focal point in the backyard and contrasted well with the blue from the pool. The client was happy with the results and could now enjoy their days by the pool in peace.

Even though we’ve never pulled off floating panels before, this approach is now another tool in our arsenal for future installations.

Next Steps

We’re happy to have a team that doesn’t turn the other way when faced with a challenge. We’ve developed a knack for taking things head on, experimenting and trying alternate routes when things don’t work well. That’s what we’ll continue doing in the future.

If you have an area that could benefit from more greenery, whether for privacy, aesthetic enhancement, or both, reach out to us and let’s talk about how we can help. Even if you don’t see a similar project in our portfolio, know that we don’t shy away from the unknown.
