Artificial Vines and Trailing Plants for Indoor and Covered Areas
A trailing vine is the quietest way to break a hard horizontal line, whether that line is the top of a kitchen cabinet, a shelf edge or a reception counter. This range covers the greenery itself rather than the container: heart leaf and pothos bushes, string of pearls, maidenhair and Boston ferns, bougainvillea and ivy garlands. Falls run from a 60cm mixed foliage bush to a 260cm ivy garland vine supplied five to a pack. Because a vine is seen against a plain surface, the way the strands separate matters more than the leaf count.
Choosing the fall and the density
Dense pieces such as the 90cm hanging fern and the 100cm philodendron garland bush give a solid mass of green and suit a single feature position. Open, strandy pieces such as the 90cm string of pearls and the 120cm Spanish moss vine read lighter and are better where several are grouped. Garlands at 190cm and 260cm are for runs that are horizontal rather than vertical.
Fixing and settling the strands
Trailing bushes sit on a moulded base that drops into a pot, a wall planter or a shelf recess, so no chain is involved. Garlands are cable-tied or wired along a rail, beam or mesh screen at roughly 40cm intervals to stop them sagging in the middle. Once fixed, pull individual strands to different lengths by hand, since an even hemline is the one thing that reads as manufactured.

What is the difference between an artificial vine and a hanging bush?
A vine or garland is a long single strand or braided length, supplied at 190cm or 260cm, meant to be run horizontally along a rail or beam. A hanging bush is a shorter cluster of strands on a common base, typically 60cm to 105cm, meant to sit in a pot or planter and fall vertically. The 100cm philodendron garland bush sits between the two, with garland-length strands on a bush base.
Are fake vines and artificial vines the same thing?
Yes. Fake vine, fake hanging plant, artificial vine and trailing greenery all describe the same product, and Designer Plants uses artificial throughout. What separates a convincing vine from an unconvincing one is strand length: if every strand finishes at the same point, the eye reads it as manufactured immediately, which is why the strands here are cut to varying lengths and can be pulled further by hand.
How long are the artificial ivy garlands?
Ivy and pothos garland vines are supplied at 260cm each in packs of five, giving 13 metres in a single order. A shorter two-tone ivy garland is available at 190cm, and the ivy garland bush at 100cm suits a pot rather than a run. Lengths are stated in centimetres in each product title.
Can artificial vines be used outdoors on a balcony or pergola?
Only the pieces whose titles state UV Resistant or UV Treated, such as the 90cm bougainvillea, the 90cm heart leaf and the 190cm two-tone ivy garland. Those carry UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf material. Untreated vines will lose their colour outdoors and are intended for interior positions only.
How do artificial vines compare with pre-planted hanging baskets?
Vines are supplied as greenery alone and need a pot, a wall planter or a fixing point, which makes them the flexible option when the container is already chosen. A hanging basket arrives planted with its chain fitted and hangs immediately. Many arrangements use both, with a planted basket as the anchor and loose vines run out from it along a beam.
How are artificial vines attached along a beam or balustrade?
Cable ties or florist wire at roughly 40cm intervals hold the line without sagging, and the ties disappear under the foliage once the strands are fanned out. On a mesh or wire balustrade the strands can be threaded through directly. For a rendered or masonry surface, small hooks give a fixing point without needing a continuous rail.
Do artificial hanging plants and vines fade indoors?
Not in normal interior light. Fading is a UV effect, so the risk sits with direct sun through north-facing glass or an unshaded skylight, where a UV Resistant piece is the safer specification even though the position is technically indoors. Anywhere further into the room, an untreated vine holds its colour indefinitely.
