Before Our Collaboration
Patterson Lakes is a highly sought-after suburb of Melbourne and a beautiful spot on the Gold Coast. A few rich canals cut through the town, which gives homeowners boat access to the bay, with some even having their own private beaches.
In this suburb, we found a fantastic opportunity to implement our artificial plants. Since Patterson Lakes is very wellness-oriented, its inhabitants love being outside and enjoying nature.
But since the suburb has a lot of water, it may make it difficult for real plants to thrive, as they need to get used to splashes and rain.
For one family, commercial artificial plants were the way to go. They wanted a solution to turn their home into a tropical getaway without exerting too much effort or committing to long-term care. So, they wanted some beautiful fake palms and ferns.
The Problem
This family owned a spacious home featuring a grand staircase and large windows that allowed abundant natural light to filter into the interior. Their design goal was to achieve a tropical look, with fresh, lifelike greenery that could contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Initially, they’d installed artificial plants and loved the low maintenance. However, over time, the plants deteriorated: the foliage faded, the fronds cracked, and the whole display lost its vibrancy. Again, they were at a crossroads.
Due to the intense sunlight in these areas, real plants weren’t a feasible option because they would need extensive maintenance and would struggle to thrive in such conditions. But they also couldn’t get the same artificial plants they had before because they’d set themselves up for failure again.
After some deliberation, the family stopped by our showroom in Braeside. There, they saw and touched our artificial plants, talked to our design team, and got bespoke advice on improving their living space with realistic tropical plants.
During the Process
The clients had a clear idea: fill the empty spaces around the staircase and windows with tropical palms and ferns that would evoke a tropical paradise.
Based on their wishes, we suggested our Premium Artificial Potted Multi-trunk Fan Palm and the Artificial Potted Wide Leaf Birds Nest Fern because of their realistic appearance and durability, particularly to fading. Since the designated locations are subjected to intense sunlight streaming through the large windows, the chosen products had to be UV-resistant. This means that we looked solely at fauxliege with our UV-Tex technology.
During the free design consultation, we planned the placement of each plant to ensure a balanced flow within the space. We didn’t want to place a faux palm in the middle of a space and obstruct the traffic.
The tall palms were perfect for framing the staircase and filling the upper areas. On the other hand, the birds nest ferns were great for softening the look and filling in the little empty corners.
The Solution
After measuring everything and assessing the space, our team spent two days working their magic.
The showstopper of the design was the massive 5-metre tall multi-trunk fan palm, which we prominently placed in a statement planter by the staircase. This dramatic focal point immediately transformed the space and set the tone for the tropical retreat our clients were after.
Surrounding the main palm, we grouped smaller palms to form a natural-looking cluster. We then arranged the Birds Nest Ferns at the base to add volume.
Along the windows, we installed additional tall palms to capitalise on the natural light and to introduce vertical visual interest to the space.
Under the staircase, we went with a layered arrangement and used palms of varying sizes and forms to complement the rest of the fauxliege. This approach made sure the area was fully utilised and styled to perfection.
And because all the plants are UV-resistant, they’re designed to hold up beautifully even in the sunniest spots without fading. The ones near the windows might be soaking in light all day, but they’re made to keep their rich green look for years.
After the Process
The family couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Their home now feels bright, lively, and full of that tropical charm they were dreaming about.
A key advantage of the chosen artificial palms is their low maintenance requirement, which eliminates the need for watering, pruning, or trimming. The foliage retains its fresh, natural appearance year-round without any ongoing effort, bar the occasional dusting.
The mix of tall palms and soft ferns makes the place feel layered and alive, but without any of the usual plant drama.
Next Steps
Commercial artificial plants have become a favourite, and it’s easy to see why. They bring all the vibrancy without any of the hassle that comes with real plants.
Our goal is to help clients create beautiful, low-maintenance environments that remain fresh and inviting all year round.
And we’re not just here for the setup. We’ll check in with you online, answer your questions, and help out if you want to switch things up or add some more greenery.
