Before Our Collaboration
With spring creeping up faster than we can dig out our T-shirts, we’ve been getting more and more client calls about poolside makeovers. Aussies might not have their sunnies on just yet, but they’re gearing up for smashing pools this season.
One of these clients was a resident who’d had a gutful of their gray wooden fence. Their backyard had heaps of potential and was already showing some of it off with the hot tub and the vibrant turf.
But the client figured it was time for an upgrade. Summer’s knocking at the door, so they decided to get ahead and enjoy their new space when the time arrives.
While there’s a mountain of poolside decor options out there, we’re thrilled these clients took the road less travelled and opted for an artificial green wall.
Did they get what they wanted? Let’s see.
The Problem
This client didn’t have much of an issue; they just needed a change. Their current backyard was fairly ordinary and looked a lot like their neighbours’: a wooden fence, turf, a covered hot tub and dainty marble stepping stones.
It wasn’t unpleasant, but it wasn’t anything to write home about, either. And with the seasons changing, this client wanted something spectacular.
They mulled over the layout of their yard and crafted a vision that matched their desires. They wanted their yard to stand out, and while the pool was to be the focal point, they didn’t want a regular fence surrounding it.
So, they started hunting for ideas on how to cover the fence without overwhelming the space and shouldering more responsibilities. After a while, they stumbled upon us, saw some photos, and gave us a bell.
And the rest is history.
Just kidding, we’ll go over the project from start to finish.
During the Process
This project came with high expectations. The client knew this would be back-breaking work, but that didn’t put them off.
Since they were revamping their entire yard, not just the fence, they enlisted the help of a professional crew. Still, they were involved in every facet of the project, offering ideas, guidance and a helping hand.
They exercised the most creative freedom with the fence. They browsed our collection and sought insight from our team on the best panel to use. After some deliberation and a few more inspo pics, the clients chose our Wild Tropics artificial vertical garden and we sent it over immediately.
The Solution
Since this installation was part of a much larger project, the client tackled the most labour-intensive task first – the pool.
A crew of professionals came in, dug up the ground and found a prime spot for the new pool. At that time, all you could see was dirt and a gaping hole.
Then, the team installed the pool, levelled the ground and covered it with aggregate concrete to accommodate outdoor furniture and provide slip-resistant properties. Opposite the wooden fence, the clients installed a glass fence for some modern chic.
Once the hot tub, loungers and the rest of the furniture were back in place, the clients focussed on the decor. It was finally time to install the Wild Tropics.
Installing an artificial green wall onto a wooden fence is a simple process, but it still requires some patience and caution. The team hired for the job followed a meticulous process to ensure the panels were secure and flush against the fence.
There are several ways to install vertical garden panels onto wooden surfaces, but one of the most common methods is with a staple gun. All you need to do is hold the panel against the fence, staple through the grid and repeat throughout the panel until you’re sure it’s secure.
If you want to do this yourself, we’ve got a full guide on our website and a how-to video with detailed explanations from Georgina.
Once the panels were up, the client fluffed the foliage to ensure the grid wasn’t visible and to mimic the natural sway of real leaves. Plus, since this particular panel is UV-resistant, it won’t fade when exposed to harsh sunlight for up to 4 years.
After the Process
The project was a rip-roaring success.
The artificial green wall around the pool created the client’s desired atmosphere with a lush backdrop that doesn’t need maintenance.
The newly installed pool is bordered by aesthetic concrete that adds texture to the space. The edges of the yard are lined with white pebbles that complement the greenery above and create a resort-like environment.
The sleek glass fence offers unobstructed views of the pool and maintains an open and airy feel.
The clients were satisfied with the results and can now enjoy their summers without worrying about leaf fallout and fading – the perfect mix of style and functionality.
Next Steps
We’re thrilled that so many people are discovering the beauty and practicality of artificial green walls.
This project proved that even if you don’t cover your entire poolside with fauxliege, you can still reap the benefits and create a stunning vista. Sometimes, it’s even better when you break it up, just like this client did with their glass fence.
Since we can barely wait for summer, we’re elated to kick it off sooner by helping with poolside renovations.
