Before Our Collaboration

Modern apartment balcony with artificial hanging greenery canopy

Recently, our team was tasked to assist with decorating a stunning new build to make it more inviting for the homeowners who will be moving in.

The apartment we were asked to decorate had a modern balcony that required a thoughtful and creative approach using artificial hanging plants.

When the client reached out, they were getting ready to move into their new home. They wanted their outdoor space to feel warm, personal, and full of character, which would be very different from what they were currently seeing.

The original design had sleek black steel beams, white cladding, and large windows. These features looked great but felt a bit bare without any décor. The balcony, although modern, seemed empty and cold.

The client wanted to soften harsh lines and add rich, natural greenery that needed no upkeep. The beams stretch across the balcony, so the homeowners imagined a hanging canopy of leaves to add softness, depth, and movement to the area.

They also wanted something that could be seen from the street so that it would create a unique architectural feature for the building.

The Problem

Artificial hanging plant canopy installed on balcony beamsThe challenge was clear: the balcony looked modern and stylish, but it felt lifeless.

The exposed beams and sharp angles lacked texture and warmth. The client wanted a solution that would:

  • Make the balcony feel inviting rather than empty.
  • Reduce the stark contrast of the industrial design.
  • Add colour and volume without compromising the clean aesthetic.
  • Require zero maintenance after installation.
  • Withstand outdoor conditions, sun exposure, and wind.

We looked at the images they sent and got our stylist Connie to come up with a few different ideas for the space. Connie is the brains behind all our displays, which you can see first-hand in our showroom.

Our team quickly noticed the space's great potential. The long black beams were great for a layered installation, and the view needed something soft and natural to frame it.

Luckily, artificial greenery can quickly change the mood and energy of a space, especially if it’s a balcony or a rooftop.

We decided to work with this client on a creative challenge. They aimed to design a complete balcony fit-out, so the plan included a mix of hanging greenery to add organic depth.

During the Process

They cared about aesthetics but also functionality, so they prioritized products that:

  • Look extremely realistic.
  • Mix well together in colour and texture.
  • Stay vibrant over time.
  • Offer UV resistance.
  • Are lightweight and easy to install.

We received photos of the balcony from various angles. After that, our team picked a stylish mix of plants to recommend. Together with the client, we picked the combination that worked best and draped it nicely over the beams.

The Solution

After finalizing the product selection, the client decided to handle the installation themselves. Our artificial plants are flexible and lightweight, so they’re incredibly easy to mount. Depending on your handiness, this can be a fun DIY project for the entire family.

These clients mixed faux philodendron garlands, bracken ferns, pothos, and purple-green willow leaves. They arranged them by texture, length, and density so that they created a natural-looking canopy effect.

The installation stretched across the entire balcony beam structure. Some plants draped softly, while others hung in tidy clusters. The result looked organic, intentional, and immediately softened the industrial framework.

The purple tones of the willow garlands added elegance and stood out beautifully against the black steel and the rest of the green tones.

After the Process

What once felt bare and cold became a lush, welcoming outdoor sanctuary. The plants make a bold statement from the street and give the balcony a unique look, boosting the charm of the whole property.

The client loved that the installation:

  • Requires no watering, trimming, or extra care.
  • Maintains vibrant colour through all weather conditions.
  • Offers UV protection for long-term outdoor performance.
  • Adds warmth and character to the home.
  • Creates a soft canopy effect over the balcony railing.
  • Looks beautiful from both inside the house and outside.

This change inspired the client to keep decorating. They added furniture and more plants and also included personal touches to complete the home, inside and out. The balcony feels like part of the living space now, not just an architectural feature.

Next Steps

This project shows why artificial hanging plants are popular with Australian homeowners. They help modernize and enhance balconies, provide instant beauty, need no maintenance, and last very well outside.

We’re happy to have helped this client realise their vision and craft a one-of-a-kind balcony appearance that marries nature and modernity.

Our team will keep supporting the homeowner with questions and décor ideas so that their space stays just as beautiful as the day it was installed.
