Before Our Collaboration

This project was unique for us at Designer Plants due to both the scope and the client’s vision. Steve Bashi, our US client, loves artistic and quirky decor, and might well have had one of the most unique homes we’d seen.

He wanted to add vibrant greenery to his modern home while keeping its sleek and minimalist look intact. He imagined a faux green wall that feels alive, works well with his existing contemporary decor, and can double as a backdrop.

The complete transformation is showcased in a YouTube video created by Jay Tomsky, so you can see the full project taking shape from start to finish. It details each stage, from planning and design to the installation itself. It also highlights the creativity, skill, and the thrill of making a vision real.

Steve contacted us for a solution that blended artistry, structure, and practicality. He wanted something that looked natural, lasted for years, and needed little maintenance.

The Problem

  • Dense, realistic greenery that looked vibrant and alive from every angle.
  • A design that complemented the wall’s architecture and matched the existing furniture.
  • Designed to maintain a sophisticated look without intensive maintenance.
  • Materials that are safe for indoor use, especially in a family environment.

Live plant walls had issues, although they would look just as stunning. They needed a lot of water and regular upkeep, which Steve didn’t need on his to-do list. Thankfully, our safe artificial green walls were just what he needed, so he chose a combination of a few different panels to create a custom faux green wall.

During the Process

They provide unmatched realism in colour, texture, and density. These panels also use SafeTex technology, which means they don't release harmful substances, so they are safe for indoor use in homes with children and animals (which Steve has a lot of).

Steve chose a DIY installation with help from his friend Jeff. Jeff was very skilled, almost like a pro installation team, so the project went on without a hitch.

Our interlocking panel system lets panels snap together easily, so the only “building work” they needed to do was drill the panels into the surface. This worked well, even after cutting or customising them to fit special wall features.

The DIY process captured in the video shows several key stages:

  1. Preparation: Measuring the wall, planning panel placement, and mapping the layout.
  2. Customisation: Cutting panels to accommodate architectural features and aligning with the wall frame.
  3. Assembly: Attaching panels to a custom metal frame using a drill, following our installation guide.
  4. Finishing Touches: Connecting panels to create a seamless, continuous wall of greenery.

We kept in touch with Steve during the process, which helped us align on design, tools, and practical issues. But, as you can see from the video, the team was so efficient that they barely needed external help.

The Solution

The final installation included a customised artificial green wall. They mounted it on a metal frame that matched the wall's size and design, which added structural depth, supporting the panels and enhancing the overall design. Its clean, sharp lines highlighted a modern look and made the greenery look even more natural.

Installed in the main living area, the wall became the home’s striking focal point. The bright greens softened the black edges and sharp lines. This created a nice balance between modern design and nature, and the interlocking panels made customisation easy, which gave Steve control over layout and design.

We combined creative vision, technical skill, and quality materials. The result was a unique statement piece. It’s visually striking and simple to maintain. Steve described the result as “exactly what I pictured in my head—but even better.”

The completed green wall created a striking transformation of the space. A once-blank wall is now a lively piece of art. It brings texture, warmth, and personality. Jeff even remarked that the wall “doesn’t even look fake,” a testament to the realism of our panels.

The YouTube video highlights the DIY process. It also teaches homeowners to achieve professional results using our panels and installation system. It shows how artificial greenery can be stylish, safe, and easy for DIY fans, and you can enjoy it without losing quality.
