Technology you can point to
Artificial greenery fails in predictable ways. Foliage bleaches in the sun. Material you would not want near a child or a pet turns up in a product marketed for a family home. A wall reaches the end of its life and there is nowhere for it to go.
Designer Plants develops the material specifications in-house to close off each of those failures, and applies each one to the ranges it actually suits.
The four material technologies
Each one is developed and tested in-house, then applied only to the ranges it suits. Where a technology covers part of the catalogue rather than all of it, the product page says so.
UVTex
UV inhibitor compounded through the material rather than sprayed onto the surface, so sun exposure cannot strip it off. Applied to the outdoor rated ranges.
RealTex
Leaf colour, veining, indentation and new growth taken from the living plant, so the piece reads as real at conversational distance. RealTex describes the foliage only.
SafeTex
Free from lead and heavy metals. RoHS and REACH compliant, with test reports available on request, so it is safe around children and pets.
EcoTex
No water, no fertiliser and no replanting across the life of the product, and a closed-loop recycling program in participating parts of Australia.
Fire performance sits outside those four, because it applies to a specific certified range rather than to every product. See the fire tested range.
UVTex: protection built into the leaf
A surface spray sits on top of the leaf, and anything sitting on top of a leaf eventually comes off it. UVTex is compounded into the material during manufacture, so the inhibitor is distributed through the leaf instead of coating it. That is what holds colour through an Australian summer.
UVTex is applied to the outdoor rated ranges. Indoor ranges are not UV stabilised and are not sold for outdoor use. Extended UV warranty applies to the certified outdoor panel, hedge and green wall ranges.

Living foliage is never one flat colour. RealTex builds each leaf from several tones, takes veining and indentation from the living plant, and mixes leaf sizes and new growth through the piece so no two sections repeat.
RealTex describes the foliage. It is not a UV treatment, and it is not applied to pots or planters.
SafeTex: what the material is not
Artificial foliage can carry lead, heavy metals and volatile organic compounds. SafeTex is the specification that keeps them out. The material is RoHS and REACH compliant, and test reports are available on request.
It matters most where you are least likely to check: a green wall in a childcare centre, a hedge at toddler height, a planted screen in a home with a dog that chews.
EcoTex: what happens at the end
An artificial wall uses no water, no fertiliser and no replanting for its entire life. On a commercial site that is the whole irrigation trade removed from the build.
When it is eventually replaced, the closed-loop recycling program takes the material back in participating parts of Australia and repurposes it into furniture and homewares rather than sending it to landfill.
FireTex: the fire tested and certified range
Where a build carries a fire safety obligation, the fire tested and certified range is the one to specify. FireTex applies to those products only, and each one carries its certification on its own product page.
Nothing outside that range is fire rated, and none of it should be specified as though it is. If you are unsure which applies to your project, ask before you order.
