Wouldn’t we all love the luxury of a private, tropical island to retreat to? Sadly, unless you can call the likes of Johnny Depp, Julia Koch, Leo DiCaprio, Lenny Kravitz, or Richard Branson your besties, that kind of pampering will remain a distant dream for most of us.
But, that doesn’t mean we should completely abandon the idea of a place to relax and unwind, shielded from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
So, hot off the press, the top ideas on creating a private paradise at home with lush faux plants and artificial green walls.
Giving you a privacy in home option that is durable, kind to the environment AND looking good is what we do!
Read on to find out how to design your very own secluded spots indoors or outdoors – instantly and totally fuss-free.
1. The balcony makeover
There’s nothing quite like summer in Australia. With many of us commuting to work again, unwinding on the balcony on a balmy evening is quite the treat after a long day away from home.
Even if you have the tiniest of balconies, there’s a lot you can do to shield from curious eyes and noise and turn the space into your lush slice of paradise while you’re at it.
The obvious choice for small spaces is our DIY hedge panels. They are easy to install and provide an instant pick-me-up. They are UV protected, made to withstand our weather conditions and will look good for a long time.
Our green walls make for the perfect apartment balcony privacy screen. They have a shallower profile compared to living walls, which will leave you more space for a couple of pots to add a splash of bright colours to your ensemble. Don’t forget to leave some room for the esky, a cosy throw, and your favourite deckchair!
Inspiration: Why not weave fairy lights through your green wall. Seeing that you’ll never have to cut back an artificial plant, you won’t have to worry about untangling or accidentally ‘pruning’ any cables!
2. The outdoor cool off – nothing to see here!
Awkward eye contact with the neighbours when cooling off outdoors? Panicky sprint inside after a swim? Here’s your solution to embarrassing cover-ups.
Why not use an outdoor privacy screen or vertical garden panels around your outdoor shower to create privacy? Have a look at this little beauty. Doesn’t that take you right to the shores of Hawaii with its bold mix of green leaves and selected plants giving it that tropical vibe? No privacy at home? Not anymore!
Green walls and our range of large plants such as these tall topiary or Cypress pine trees will, of course, also provide privacy to your pool area. You can even choose plants slightly overhanging your pool – you won’t need to gather their leaves out of your pool filter!
Best of all, though, you’ll never need to wait for your hedge to grow; artificial plants will have the correct height from the get-go.
Inspiration: Many of our green hedges and taller topiary trees come in pots and planters. They are lightweight and portable. That makes them the ideal backyard accessory, easily create a different look, and achieve privacy where and when you need it.
3. The Incredible Hulk
No, you’re not on a Marvel movie set. We are talking about our range of tall plants that can add height and volume to where it’s needed.
Monsteras and Fiddle Leaf trees are some of the most popular indoor plants right now and are such an easy way to bring nature inside. At up to 1.80 m tall and with life-like, glossy large leaves, they will add a fantastic focal point to any room and take it from plain to lush instantly. They are great if you want to opt for a single statement piece rather than a collection of smaller plants.
For outdoor settings or grand entrance halls and large spaces, check out our range of high-quality custom tall trees. Up to 6 metres tall and some with wide canopies, they are all handcrafted and made to order, exactly to your specifications.
Inspiration: Wherever possible, put your faux plant in a place where its real version could grow. For example, don’t put your lovely artificial palm into a dark corner without any natural light. Put it in a spot where it could grow if it was real.
4. The party mix
This one is dedicated to all the creative home decorators and designers, the boho-chic followers, trendsetters and the clever DIYers. Mixing and matching the tall and the bold with the dainty and petite, the artificial with the real deal, the pops of colours with the light hues are a lot of fun!
Why not play with hanging baskets, complemented by a couple of larger pot plants such as the stunning wide leaf Cordyline, then zhuzh the whole thing up with flowering faux plants or succulents.
The cool thing about going for a range of colours, textures and sizes is that it will be super easy to create a different look by just slightly changing the position of one or two or removing a pot now and then!
Inspiration: Create a seasonal change by adding one or two natural plants or flowers to your green creation! Changing the pots or vases is also an easy way to achieve a completely different look!
5. The jungle paradise
We’ve not been able to travel to exotic places for some time, so here’s us bringing the exotic to you!
Whether you are looking to create privacy in home or office, why not make a statement whilst you’re at it. Create your private wilderness with Elephant Ear, the amazing foliage of the Zebra plant, the multi-coloured hues of a Leopard Lily and some wild grass.
All our plants are beautifully crafted and will add a lush green look to any space, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. If you choose a plant that is not already UV protected, applying our UV protection spray will ensure you can enjoy your faux jungle for a long time.
Inspiration: We are not talking about the Amazon here. Sometimes all you need for your private wilderness is a couple of plants, well-selected for the vibe they create, the memories they may evoke, the pick-me-up they give, and the privacy they provide in exactly the right spot!
6. The window dressing
Are the neighbours watching your TV, or are passersby checking what you’re eating for dinner? Or perhaps you’ve got just too much early sunlight in your bedroom?
Forget the privacy tint for windows or the curtains! Adding plants to your view instead will not only help with any privacy issues, but it’ll also make your windows look good!
We are thinking of hanging plants to filter sunlight and smaller plants for the windowsill to create the privacy you need without losing the view!
Many of our artificial plants are already UV resistant. But if you choose one that isn’t, a simple application of our UV spray will do the trick.
Inspiration: Why not add light shelving to a window? This is a practical design trick for windows you cannot open anyway. It’ll give you a blank canvas to decorate with a mix of smaller artificial plants and perhaps a sprig or two of hanging pearls cascading from your favourite glass jug or vase. The sunlight will reflect beautifully on coloured glass or even crystal.
7. The space savers
Interior designers love faux hanging plants because they can add height to a room and help declutter smaller spaces. Artificial hanging plants are a creative way to make the most of your available space without you missing out on lush greenery. Many of our faux plants already come with a pot.
Alternatively, with the boho revival and a trend towards chrome and brass, you will find a beautiful vessel out there that is exactly the right accessory for your home or office.
Inspiration: Do you have a tiled bathroom wall or shower divider? The easiest way to add interest to an otherwise bare wall is to add a hanging or cascading plant.
8. The permanent home office
All indications point towards the home office being a more permanent way of work, either full- or part-time. If remote is your work mode and you’ve not already done so, making your home office fit for purpose and comfortable to work in is a logical next step.
Privacy walls for home
During the last couple of years, many of us have struggled with finding the space and quiet to think, to have Zoom meetings without interruptions, to be able to leave a workstation set up without the entire room looking a bit messy.
Green privacy walls for home offices is the practical and elegant solution!
Creating a division with an artificial green wall or vertical garden will allow you privacy and a clear line between your private and work life. It is a space-saving solution and can create a warm and welcoming work environment.
If you already have a separate office space, even better! Then your task is to make it inviting and comfortable to work in. Adding high-quality faux greenery that doesn’t require maintenance will not droop, dry out or wilt away, will give you a daily pick me up for a very long time.
Inspiration: If possible, add your favourite greenery in plain sight: facing you rather than behind you. Inspiration and great ideas often happen when you can let your mind wander, looking at greenery!
9. The eye for design
There’s no shortage of creative and nifty ideas to green up a space.
Concepts that you might see using real plants will, in most cases, work with high-quality artificial plants as well.
Even better, you won’t have to worry about their size, height, placement, pruning or watering. Faux plants are your instant, fuss-free gratification.
The large variety of high-quality, life-like plants from Designer Plants are every DIYer and budding designer’s dream. Whether you are creating your private green oasis, a dreamy floor to ceiling privacy screen, a lush home privacy fence, stunning hanging baskets for loved ones, the choices are endless.
