Artificial Hedges & Screening – Instant Privacy, No Growing Season
A hedge takes years to establish and a lifetime to maintain. Screening solves a problem that is usually urgent: an overlooked deck, a bare Colorbond fence, a neighbour's second-storey window, a bin area that spoils an otherwise finished courtyard. This range solves it on the day of installation.
There are two ways to screen, and the right one depends on whether there is something to fix to. Free-standing hedges are self-supporting units that can be positioned, moved and repositioned, which suits rentals, events, courtyards, and anywhere fixing is not permitted. Hedge panels, tiles, ivy rolls and extendable trellis screens mount to an existing wall, fence or frame for permanent continuous coverage.
Every product uses RealTex material technology, with UVTex inhibitors integrated within the leaf on UV-certified outdoor products. The FireTex range is available where a project brief calls for fire-tested greenery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between free-standing hedges and hedge panels?
Free-standing hedges are self-supporting units in a base or planter that can be moved and repositioned, which suits rentals, events and courtyards where fixing is not allowed. Hedge panels and tiles mount to an existing wall, fence or frame for permanent continuous coverage.
Which option suits a rental property?
Free-standing hedges, since nothing is fixed to the structure. Where a landlord permits fixing to an existing fence, ivy rolls and extendable trellis screens are removable with minimal marking.
How much do I need to cover a fence?
Measure the run in metres and the height to be covered, then multiply for square metres. Rolls are supplied in set lengths and panels typically cover 1m x 1m. The coverage calculator works it out from your measurements.
Can screening be fitted to Colorbond fencing?
Yes. Ivy rolls and hedge panels fix to Colorbond using cable ties through the profile or a lightweight batten frame. The installation guide covers Colorbond, timber, masonry and mesh with video.
How do extendable trellis screens work?
They arrive compressed and expand across the area to be covered, then fix at intervals to a fence or wall. They suit irregular runs and are quick to fit, though they give a lighter finish than a solid hedge panel.
Will hedges and screening fade in Australian sun?
UV-certified products carry UVTex inhibitors integrated within the leaf material rather than sprayed on the surface, so they hold colour season after season and are covered by an extended UV warranty. Products without an explicit UV rating are intended for interior use.
Can I see a sample first?
Yes. Ordering a sample lets you judge leaf density and colour against your own fence, light and surrounding materials before committing to a full run.
Is screening suitable for commercial sites?
Yes. Screening is widely used for construction hoarding, plant and bin enclosures, carpark boundaries and outdoor dining separation. Designer Plants has delivered commercial-grade installations for clients including BMW, Disney, Westfield, Virgin Australia and VicRoads.
