Designer Plants Five Key Technologies

The UVTex, RealTex and FireTex technologies belong to Designer Plants foliage and have nothing to do with the pots on this page, so no such claim is made for them. For an indoor pot the useful specification is different again: recycled-material construction, matt and polished finishes that suit artificial light, and formats covering floor, shelf, wall and chain-hung positions.

Indoor Pots for Floors, Shelves and Walls

Indoors, a pot is chosen against the surface it stands on as much as the plant it holds. There is no rain to drain away and no wind to worry about, but there is timber flooring, carpet, painted plasterboard and a ceiling that may or may not take a hook. This is the broadest pot range on the site, covering 14cm shelf pots through to 71cm floor planters. Wall-mounted and chain-hung formats sit alongside them, from $14.95 to $339.85.

Choosing a size for the surface it stands on

Shelves and bedside tables take 14cm and 17cm engraved pots, while console tables and kitchen benches suit 20cm and 25cm stone, rendered and marble pots. A floor position beside a sofa works at 47cm, and a corner or stairwell needs 71cm, or the 70cm tall tapered square where floor area is tight. The 30cm bowls sit on dining tables where a taller pot blocks a sightline.

What changes when a pot comes indoors

Drainage stops being a benefit and becomes a liability, because whatever runs out lands on the floor. Leave the specimen in its nursery pot, sit it inside the planter on a riser and carry it to the sink to water. Chain-hung pots need a hook fixed into a joist, and the 35cm and 45cm floating half moon wall planters avoid the ceiling question.

Matching pot to specimen

Match the pot to the mature spread of the plant, not the size it arrives at. Where the pairing is the hard part, the premium areca palm and render pot bundle supplies both already matched, as does the artificial potted plants range. Above about 1.5 metres, pair an artificial tree with a 71cm round, or call 1800 617 341.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size indoor pot suits a corner of a living room?

A room corner needs 47cm at minimum and reads better at 71cm, because a corner has two walls behind it absorbing visual weight. The 71cm textured rounds in white, black and grey are the pieces built for that position. Where the corner is narrow, the 70cm tall tapered square gains the same height on a smaller footprint.

Are indoor pots for fake plants different from pots for live plants?

The vessels are identical, but how they are used differs. A fake plant needs no drainage, no saucer and no riser, so it can go straight into the decorative pot and be forgotten, which is why the polished bowls and engraved pots turn up so often in bathrooms and above kitchen cupboards. A live specimen in the same 25cm rendered pot needs to be kept in its nursery pot and lifted out to be watered, or the base of the vessel will hold water against the roots.

Do indoor plant pots need a drainage hole?

Not if they are used as cover pots, which is the recommended approach indoors. Water draining out of a pot indoors has nowhere to go except the floor. Leaving the plant in its nursery pot and sitting it inside the decorative planter on a riser keeps runoff contained and lets you tip out anything that collects in the base.

How do indoor pots differ from the imitation stone range?

This page is organised by where the pot goes rather than what it looks like, so it spans engraved, rendered, marble, textured and stone finishes across floor, shelf, wall and hanging formats. The imitation stone pots are organised by finish and lean towards outdoor and courtyard positions. There is overlap, since the 20cm and 25cm stone pots appear in both.

Can pots be hung from an indoor ceiling?

Yes, with a hook fixed into a joist. The hanging rustic white and hanging grey pots at 30cm arrive with their chain already fitted, so the only work is the anchor point. A plasterboard toggle is not adequate for a planted pot, and if the ceiling cannot be drilled the 35cm and 45cm floating half moon wall planters achieve a similar effect off a wall instead.

Which indoor pots suit a bathroom or a laundry?

The 30cm polished bowls and the 14cm to 17cm engraved pots are the practical choices, because they are small enough for a vanity or a shelf and the surfaces wipe clean. Humidity is not an issue for recycled-material pots the way it is for untreated timber or unsealed terracotta. An artificial specimen is the usual choice in a bathroom, since light levels are rarely enough for a live plant.

Is there an indoor pot and plant bundle?

The premium areca palm tree and render pot bundle pairs a specimen and a matched vessel in one order at $339.85, which removes the guesswork about whether the diameter will suit. It is the only bundled pairing on this page. For smaller pairings, the artificial potted plants range arrives already planted into its own vessel.

Will an indoor pot mark a timber floor?

The cast texture on the base of the 47cm and 71cm planters is coarse, so lift rather than drag them across timber. Felt pads under a floor planter solve it permanently and also let the vessel be nudged during cleaning. Because these are recycled-material bodies rather than ceramic or concrete, a knock against a skirting board will not chip the floor.

Commercial Grade. Made for Lasting Impact.

Indoor planting is specified for apartment lobbies, medical waiting rooms, hotel corridors and short-stay accommodation, where the brief is usually to soften a hard interior without adding anything that needs a maintenance contract.

Every position from one range. Floor, bench, wall and ceiling formats sit in the same collection, so a corridor, a lift lobby and a reception counter can be covered without sourcing from four suppliers.

Nothing that damages a floor. Drop-in planting keeps water inside the nursery pot, which matters over timber and carpet, and recycled-material bodies will not chip a floorboard if a vessel is knocked during a move.

Bundled pairings. Where a specification needs the plant and the vessel resolved together, bundles such as the premium areca palm with a render pot remove the matching step from the process.

Volume availability across sizes is confirmed on enquiry.
