Green Disks

Wall-mounted discs are stocked at 50cm, 60cm, 75cm, 80cm, 90cm, 100cm and 150cm in diameter. The 150cm dense green sensation and mixed ivy and philodendron discs are the largest single pieces in the range. Hanging disc chandeliers are made in 40cm, 60cm and 80cm.

Yes, the terms describe the same product and Designer Plants uses artificial throughout. What separates one disc from another is not the wording but how the foliage is packed against the frame: a sparse fake disc shows its backing ring at the edge when it is lit from the side, which is how a wall disc is almost always lit.

A disc is a self-contained circular piece with a finished metal frame and hangs like artwork on a single fixing. Green wall panels are square modules that tile together to cover a whole elevation and need a framed or battened substrate behind them. Choose a disc where the wall should still be visible, and panels where it should not.

Slimline discs are built to a shallower profile off the wall, which keeps them out of the way in a corridor, a stairwell or beside a doorway. The standard discs sit proud of the surface and carry more foliage depth, which reads fuller from directly in front. Both are offered at 50cm through 100cm, so the choice is about the position rather than the size.

Each disc hangs from a fixing point behind its metal frame, so a single correctly rated wall fixing carries it. Plasterboard needs an anchor rather than a bare screw, particularly at 100cm and above where the frame diameter puts leverage on the fixing. The UV-rated discs in this range, which include the slimline colour fresh, country fern and grassy fern faces, carry UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf and hold their colour in an exposed position. The discs not marked UV resistant are made for covered or indoor positions. Check the individual product before fixing a disc to a north-facing exterior wall.

It is a disc suspended from the ceiling rather than fixed to a wall, with foliage trailing down and around the rim so it reads from below and from the side. They are made at 40cm, 60cm and 80cm in gold, black and silver frames, and the wisteria versions carry trailing white blooms through the fern foliage. Allow clear headroom below the trailing length before setting the drop.

Three is the usual answer for a wall between two and three metres wide, arranged as an odd cluster rather than a row. A common grouping is one 75cm with two 50cm discs, with the larger disc set slightly off centre and higher than its neighbours. On a wall wider than four metres a single 100cm or 150cm disc generally reads better than several small ones spread thin.
