Designer Plants Five Key Technologies

Bamboo in this range is built for height on a narrow footprint, with several models using a genuine cane trunk carrying real touch leaves. The UV-rated natural cane models hold UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf.

Artificial Bamboo for Narrow Gaps and Vertical Screening

Bamboo earns its place wherever the gap is narrow and the problem is height rather than width. A 210cm natural cane occupies a footprint barely wider than its pot yet reaches past a standard door head and breaks a first-floor sightline. This collection holds 15 products across natural cane, black bamboo, dark trunk and two-tone green, at 90cm, 150cm, 180cm and 210cm. Prices run from $69.95 for the 90cm Twiggy Japanese trunk to $449 for the 210cm natural cane.

Height against footprint

The 90cm Twiggy trunk suits a shelf, a hallway console or a bathroom corner. At 150cm a cane clears the back of a sofa and screens a seated eyeline, which is the usual choice for an open-plan divider. The 180cm and 210cm canes are the screening heights: they cut a neighbour's window line or soften the top of a boundary fence while still fitting a side passage under 600mm wide.

Cane colour and finish

Natural cane is pale gold and clearly jointed, and it reads warm against timber, render and hemp-toned interiors. Black bamboo is graphic and hard-edged, which suits a dark-framed window or a monochrome courtyard, and it is offered at 150cm and 180cm. The dark trunk model at 180cm sits between the two, and the two-tone green cane at 150cm is the softest of the four against greenery.

Grouping and position

Three canes at different heights in one trough look more natural than a single specimen, because real bamboo never grows to a uniform line. The UV-rated natural cane models are the ones for an open position, and troughs sit in planters. Frequently Asked Questions

Can artificial bamboo be used to screen a fence or a neighbour's window?

Yes, and the 180cm and 210cm canes are the heights that do it. Set them at even centres so the canopies just touch, and stagger two heights along the run so the top line is not perfectly flat. Bamboo screens by breaking a sightline rather than by forming a solid face, which is what keeps it looking planted rather than built.

Is fake bamboo suitable for outdoor use?

Only the UV-rated models. The premium natural cane bamboo at 150cm, 180cm and 210cm and the 180cm potted black bamboo are marked UV resistant and carry UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf, so they hold colour in an open position. A fake bamboo without that treatment will yellow through one Australian summer, which is the single most common complaint about untreated canes bought elsewhere.

What is the difference between natural cane and black bamboo?

Natural cane is pale gold with visible nodes and reads warm and traditional. Black bamboo has a dark, near-charcoal culm and reads graphic and contemporary, and it holds its own against dark window frames where a pale cane would disappear. Black is offered at 150cm and 180cm, natural cane at 150cm, 180cm and 210cm.

How wide is an artificial bamboo plant at the base?

Narrow, which is the whole point of the form. The canes are gathered into a single pot rather than spread across a canopy, so the floor space taken is close to the pot diameter even on the 210cm model. That is what lets bamboo work in a side passage or a balcony setback where a palm of the same height would not fit.

How does artificial bamboo compare with an artificial palm?

Bamboo goes up, a palm goes out. Bamboo gives a vertical, linear screen on a tight base and repeats well along a run. Palms spread outward and fill volume, which suits an open corner. Where both are needed, canes along the boundary and a single Areca or Phoenix palm at the corner is the common pairing.

Are the bamboo trunks real bamboo?

Several models are built on a genuine cane trunk with real touch leaves attached, including the Twiggy Japanese natural bamboo trunk at 90cm and the natural bamboo trunks at 150cm and 180cm. Others use a moulded trunk. The product page states the construction, and it is worth checking where the cane will be touched or seen at close range.

How many bamboo plants are needed for a corner or a run?

For a corner, three canes at three different heights, for instance 90cm, 150cm and 180cm, gives the layered look in one trough. Along a run, space them so the foliage of neighbouring plants just meets, then check the line from where people will actually stand rather than from directly in front.

Do the artificial bamboo plants arrive potted?

Yes. Models such as the 180cm premium artificial bamboo with dark trunk are supplied in a decorative pot ready to stand, while others come in a plain nursery pot intended to sit inside a trough or vessel. Grouping three canes into a single long trough is the arrangement that reads most like a planted stand.

Commercial Grade. Made for Lasting Impact.

Bamboo is specified where a screen has to work in a service corridor, a balcony setback, a light well or a narrow void between buildings, and there is no room for a planted bed or a wide pot.

Height on a small base. The 210cm natural cane and the 180cm black bamboo clear a standard door head while keeping the floor area committed to each plant close to the pot diameter, which matters in a leased tenancy paying by the square metre.

Repeatable line. Canes set at even centres along a wall give a consistent vertical rhythm that panelised products cannot, and single units can be pulled and replaced without disturbing the run.

Finish matching. Natural cane, black, dark trunk and two-tone green cover most joinery and facade palettes, so the screen can be tuned to the building rather than the other way round.

Cane counts for a given run are worked out at quoting.
