Fire-Rated Artificial Plants & Green Walls: FireTex and Group 1 Certified
FireTex is Designer Plants’ premium fire-retardant technology, built into our artificial plants and green walls rather than sprayed on. FireTex products are tested to AS/NZS 1530.3 with a Spread of Flame Index of 0. At the top of the range, FireTex is also integrated into our Group 1 certified panels, the highest classification under AS 5637.1.

It is important to know what each standard actually tests:
AS/NZS 1530.3 measures early fire hazard indices: ignitability, spread of flame, heat evolved and smoke developed.
AS 5637.1 assigns wall and ceiling linings a Group number from 1 to 4, based on how long a material takes to reach flashover in a full-scale room fire test (AS ISO 9705). Group 1 performs best.
Products that don’t list a tier and standard on their page should not be treated as fire tested.
Specifying Fire-Rated Green Walls for Your Project
When meeting fire compliance requirements for commercial fit-outs, a certifier or fire engineer will ask for:
- The test standard used
- The result of the test
- The report number
- Whether the wall is a lining or decor
