Artificial Hanging Plants & Vines
Ultra Realistic Artificial Plants
Designer Plants Five Key Technologies
Hanging greenery is viewed from below and at arm's length, so RealTex leaf variation runs across the whole range, and UVTex inhibitors are bonded within the leaf on the UV Resistant and UV Treated pieces intended for balconies, pergolas and covered outdoor areas.
Choosing Artificial Hanging Plants and Vines
Greenery that falls from above fills the volume of a room without taking a square metre of floor. This hub gathers the full hanging range: trailing plants and vines, planted baskets, ivy garlands and stems, and hanging pots and wall planters. Drops run from 20cm stems tucked into a shelf arrangement through to 260cm garland vines supplied five to a pack. Work out the drop first and choose the leaf second, because a hanging piece is almost always read from below and at close range.
Working out drop and scale
Measure from the fixing point down to where the greenery should stop, then match that figure to the length in the product title. Trailing plants around 90cm suit a kitchen cabinet run or a shelf edge, planted baskets between 102cm and 135cm hold their own in a stairwell or under a pergola, and 260cm garlands carry along a beam. Stems from 20cm to 45cm are for filling a hanging pot or topping an arrangement.
Hanging and fixing
Most planted baskets arrive ready to hang from their own chain, so a rated ceiling hook or a beam fixing is generally all that is needed. Trailing bushes and vines are built on a moulded base that drops inside a pot or a wall planter instead. Check that the hook and the surface behind it are rated for the weight of the piece once it is planted.
Where hanging greenery suits
Above kitchen cabinetry, along a stair balustrade, in a shopfront window, and in voids where nothing can stand on the floor. Outdoors, only pieces whose titles state UV Resistant or UV Treated belong on a balcony or under a pergola.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the artificial hanging plants range?
Four groups sit under this hub: trailing plants and vines, pre-planted hanging baskets, ivy garlands and single stems, and hanging pots and wall planters. Garlands such as the ivy and pothos vines are supplied at 260cm each in packs of five for building longer runs, while single stems start at around 20cm for filling gaps in an arrangement.
Are fake hanging plants and artificial hanging plants the same thing?
Yes. Fake hanging plants, fake vines, artificial hanging plants and hanging greenery all describe the same products, and Designer Plants uses artificial throughout. The distinction worth paying attention to is not the word but the leaf: hanging pieces are viewed from directly below, so a flat single-tone leaf gives itself away in a way it never would on a plant seen from three metres back.
How long are the artificial hanging plants and vines?
Every length is stated in centimetres in the product title. The range runs from 20cm and 30cm stems, through trailing plants at 60cm to 105cm, planted baskets at 110cm and 135cm, and garland vines at 190cm and 260cm. Measure from the fixing point to where the greenery should finish rather than from the ceiling.
Which hanging plants can be used outside?
Only those whose titles carry UV Resistant or UV Treated, such as the 110cm fern hanging basket or the 90cm bougainvillea. Those pieces carry UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf material, which is what holds the colour through an Australian summer. Anything without that wording is built for interior positions.
What is the difference between hanging plants and hanging baskets?
A trailing plant or vine is greenery on a moulded base with no container, intended to drop into a pot, a wall planter or a shelf. A hanging basket arrives already planted in its own container with a chain fitted, so it hangs straight out of the box. Baskets in that range run from a 28cm petunia through to a 135cm mixed fern.
How are artificial hanging plants fixed to a ceiling or a pergola beam?
Planted baskets hang from their supplied chain on a rated ceiling hook, a screw-in eye or an S hook over a pergola rafter. Trailing vines and garlands are usually cable-tied along a beam, a balustrade or a mesh panel, then adjusted by hand so the fall is uneven rather than uniform. For a plasterboard ceiling, fix to a joist or use an anchor rated well above the planted weight.
Do artificial hanging plants work for balcony privacy?
They soften a balcony rather than block it. A row of UV Resistant trailing plants at 90cm along a rail breaks up sightlines and takes the hard edge off a glass or steel balustrade without adding the weight and depth of a hedge panel. Where the intent is genuine screening rather than softening, a fixed panel does the job better.
How is artificial hanging greenery cleaned?
Dust with a soft brush or a hairdryer on the cool setting, since hanging pieces collect dust on the upper leaf faces where a cloth cannot easily reach. Outdoor baskets can simply be taken down and rinsed with a hose. Pieces at the end of their life can be returned through the Designer Plants artificial greenery recycling programme, and the team can be reached on 1800 617 341.

Commercial Grade. Made for Lasting Impact.
Hanging greenery carries more atmosphere per item than almost anything else specified in hospitality and retail, and it is read at close range by people standing directly underneath it.
Repeat runs that match. Baskets and garlands for a multi-site rollout are supplied from the same production run, so the tenth venue reads the same as the first.
Weight and fixing schedules. Hanging weights and suggested fixing types can be set out per item where a ceiling, rafter or bulkhead detail needs to be confirmed before install.
Compliance-led briefs. Where a specification calls for it, the separate fire-tested range should be checked at product level rather than assumed across the hanging range.
Quantities above a pallet are confirmed on enquiry.
