Laurel Hedge Panels UV Resistant Sample - Designer PlantsLaurel Hedge Panels UV Resistant Sample

Designer Plants Five Key Technologies

A sample square is the only reliable way to judge RealTex leaf variation and foliage depth in your own light. Squares cut from UV-rated panels carry the same UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf as the full-size product they come from.

Ordering Samples Before Committing to a Green Wall

Panel colour changes with the wall behind it, the light in front of it and the paving underneath it. A sample square settles all three in a day, and it is the step that prevents a large elevation being ordered in the wrong green. Standard hedge samples are supplied at no charge, and premium vertical garden samples run from $14.95 to $25. Every square is cut from the same production panel as the full-size product.

What the sample range covers

Hedge samples cover boxwood, mixed boxwood, jasmine, laurel, photinia red robin, Boston ivy and both the natural and deluxe buxus panels. Premium vertical garden samples cover White Oasis, Snowy White, Green Tropics, Wild Tropics, Coastal Greenery, Native Tea Tree, Mediterranean Fern, Green Meadows, Lavandula and Flowering Lilac, along with the rose colourways, a moss square and the recycled-content luxury panels.

How to judge a sample properly

Hold the square flat against the actual surface rather than on a bench, and look at it in both morning and afternoon light. Dark Colorbond pushes a mid-green towards grey, while white render lifts the same panel and makes its yellows read much stronger. Ordering two or three squares side by side is more useful than one, because the difference between panel styles is easier to judge than the merit of any single style alone.

Sample sizes and bespoke panels

The recycled vertical garden samples are supplied at 25cm by 25cm. Bespoke vertical garden panels also sit in this collection at 45cm by 45cm with a fire-tested option, which is the format used when a compliance-led brief needs a physical panel to assess. Once the choice is settled, full panels are ordered from the vertical garden range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which green wall samples are free and which are paid?

The standard hedge panel squares are supplied at no charge, which covers boxwood, mixed boxwood, jasmine, laurel, photinia red robin, Boston ivy and the buxus panels. Premium vertical garden squares carry a small charge, from $14.95 for White Oasis, Green Tropics, Mediterranean Fern, Green Meadows and Lavandula, up to $25 for the recycled-content luxury panels.

How large is a green wall sample?

The recycled vertical garden samples are supplied at 25cm by 25cm. Every square, whatever its size, is cut from the same production panel as the full-size product, so leaf density, colour and depth read exactly as they will across a finished wall. The bespoke panels in this collection are larger again at 45cm by 45cm.

Are fake hedge samples and artificial hedge samples the same thing?

Yes. Fake hedge sample, artificial hedge sample and panel swatch all describe the same thing: a cut square of the production panel. Designer Plants uses artificial throughout. Ordering one is the fastest way to settle whether a panel described online as a mid-green actually reads green against your own fence, which is where most of the disappointment with panels bought sight unseen comes from.

Why order a sample rather than choosing from photographs?

Because the surrounding surface changes the panel more than the photograph suggests. A mid-green square held against dark Colorbond drifts towards grey, and the same square against white render lifts and reads noticeably more yellow. Screen calibration adds a second variable on top of that. Holding two or three squares side by side against the actual wall removes both.

Which premium vertical garden samples are available?

White Oasis, Snowy White, Green Tropics, Wild Tropics, Coastal Greenery, Native Tea Tree, Mediterranean Fern, Green Meadows, Lavandula, Flowering Lilac, Yellow Rose and Elegant Red Rose, plus a Fresh Natural Green artificial moss square and the four recycled-content luxury panels. The flowering and rose squares are the ones most worth ordering, since bloom colour is harder to judge from an image than foliage green is.

How do samples relate to the full panel range?

Each square corresponds to a full 1 metre by 1 metre panel in the vertical garden range, so the sample name and the panel name match. Order the squares first, choose against the wall, then work out the panel count by multiplying the width and height of the area in metres and rounding up.

What are the bespoke 45cm by 45cm panels in this collection?

They are larger physical panels rather than swatches, supplied at 45cm by 45cm in a plain and a flowering version, with a fire-tested option. They are used where a brief needs a real panel to assess, which is common on compliance-led commercial work, and where a small square is not enough to judge how a mixed foliage pattern repeats across a face.

Do samples show the difference between UV-rated and indoor panels?

They do, once you know what to look for. Squares cut from UV-rated panels carry the same UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf as the full panel, and the leaf material has a denser, less glassy feel than an indoor decorative panel. Ordering a UV-rated square alongside an indoor one is the clearest way to see that difference before an outdoor wall is committed to.

Commercial Grade. Made for Lasting Impact.

Specifiers and fitout teams order sample squares before a finishes schedule is locked, because a panel that looked right on a supplier board can read quite differently against the actual facade material.

Material boards. Squares sit on a board alongside tile, timber, render and paint chips, which is where most green wall selections are genuinely settled rather than on screen.

Client sign-off. Handing over a physical square ends the argument about whether a panel will look convincing in photographs, and it does so before a panel count is committed.

Bespoke and compliance formats. The 45cm by 45cm bespoke panels give a larger physical piece where a brief needs a fire-tested product assessed ahead of specification.
