Designer Plants Five Key Technologies

Ivy in this range is supplied as 3m x 1m sheets on a flexible mesh backing, with RealTex leaf variation across the sheet and UVTex inhibitors bonded within the leaf on outdoor-rated products. Shade-cloth backed and double-sided rolls are held for runs that have to block a view through or be seen from both faces.

Artificial Ivy Rolls, Vines and Trailing Bushes

Artificial ivy covers ground a rigid panel cannot: a curved fence, a gate that still has to swing, or a balcony rail that needs softening rather than screening. Rolls come as 3m x 1m sheets of ivy leaf on a flexible mesh backing, so they take the shape of whatever they are tied to. Vines and garlands run from 190cm to 260cm and suit rails and rafters, while trailing bushes of 60cm to 130cm sit in pots and hanging baskets. A 200cm x 50cm moss wall covering is held for anyone building a textured backing behind the ivy.

Coverage per roll

A 3m x 1m roll covers three square metres, so a 6 metre fence greened to 1 metre takes two rolls and the same fence greened to 1.8 metres takes four. Rolls join edge to edge and the leaf overlaps the seam, which hides a join better than a butt-fitted rigid panel. Vines are bought by length, and the 260cm garlands come five to a pack, which is 13 metres of run.

Fixing rolls and vines

The mesh backing takes a cable tie straight through a Colorbond profile, a wire fence or a balustrade, and screws with washers into timber. Fix the top edge first and work down under light tension so the sheet does not sag over summer. The installation guide covers each surface, while vines need only a few ties or hooks along their length.

Choosing between roll, vine and bush

Rolls are the answer where an area has to be covered evenly and quickly. The shade-cloth backed roll adds a solid layer behind the leaf, so it blocks the view through as well as greening the surface, which open-mesh rolls do not. Double-sided rolls carry leaf on both faces for a gate seen from both sides, and vines and bushes are for detail such as a shelf edge or a pot rim.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much area does one artificial ivy roll cover?

Each roll is 3m x 1m, so it covers three square metres. A 6 metre fence greened to 1 metre needs two rolls, and the same fence greened to 1.8 metres needs four. Rolls are hung with the 3 metre dimension running horizontally along the fence in most installations, then trimmed at the end of the run.

Can artificial ivy rolls be attached to a Colorbond fence?

Yes, with cable ties passed through the ridges of the Colorbond profile, which means no drilling and no penetration of the sheet. Space the ties along the top edge first so the roll hangs straight, then tie the bottom edge and the vertical joins. This is the standard approach for making a plain Colorbond boundary read as greenery instead of steel.

What is the difference between a fake vine and an artificial ivy roll?

A fake vine, or garland, is a single trailing stem between 190cm and 260cm long, used along a rail, a rafter or a shelf edge where the point is a line of foliage rather than coverage. A roll is a 3m x 1m sheet of leaf on mesh built to cover area. If the goal is to hide a surface, use rolls; if the goal is to soften an edge, use vines.

Do artificial ivy rolls block the view through a fence?

The standard open-mesh rolls green the surface but light still passes through the gaps between leaves, so they are not a privacy product on their own. The shade-cloth backed roll at $74.95 adds a solid layer behind the foliage and does block the view through, which is the version to choose where a gap in a fence or a wire panel is the actual problem.

How do artificial ivy rolls compare with hedge panels?

Rolls are flexible and cover three square metres each, so they are faster over long or curved runs and can wrap a column or a gate. Hedge panels and tiles are rigid 1m x 1m modules with a denser face and a crisper edge, which is what a formal boundary or a feature wall calls for. Ivy reads as growth climbing a surface, while panels read as a clipped hedge.

Is artificial ivy suitable for outdoors in full sun?

The UV-rated ivy is. UVTex inhibitors are bonded within the leaf rather than sprayed on, so the colour holds through repeated summers rather than washing out to a pale green. Items in this range without an explicit UV rating, including some of the indoor garlands and trailing bushes, are intended for interior positions away from direct sun.

Can artificial ivy be used on a gate or a moving panel?

Yes, and the double-sided rolls exist for exactly that. They carry leaf on both faces, so a gate looks the same from the street and from inside the yard, and a free-standing divider does not have a bare back. The flexible backing also absorbs the flex of a gate swinging without cracking, which a rigid panel would not.

What lengths do the artificial ivy garlands and bushes come in?

Garlands and hanging vines run from 190cm through 200cm to 260cm, with the 260cm ivy and pothos vines supplied five to a pack. Trailing and hanging bushes sit between 60cm and 130cm and are sized to drop over the rim of a pot or a hanging basket rather than to run along a length.

Commercial Grade. Made for Lasting Impact.

Ivy rolls are the quickest way to green a long plain surface on a site, whether that is a hoarding, a service corridor, a car park boundary or a fit-out that has to look finished before a launch date.

Metres rather than modules. One 3m x 1m roll covers three square metres in a single fixing run, which is why rolls tend to be specified for long back-of-house lengths and panels kept for the elevations people stand beside.

Curves and access points. The flexible backing wraps a column, a curved balustrade or a rounded corner without a cut line showing, and a section can be untied, lifted back over an access hatch and re-tied.

Interiors and events. Vines and garlands from 190cm to 260cm are used across cafe fit-outs and event dressing where the install has to be reversible and leave the structure untouched.

Roll quantities are confirmed at the time of enquiry.
