Can a Tattoo Shop Change Its Interior with Artificial Greenery?

In a Nutshell

Before Our Collaboration

Full Spectrum Tattoo is a family-owned tattoo shop in Bonbeach, Victoria that’s been operating for years. Business was booming, so the family expanded their shop to a second location in Mount Eliza, Victoria.

The new store, Full Spectrum Tattoo Luxe, was to be a serene and calming environment that would make clients feel comfortable and relaxed. This would counter the often intimidating atmosphere typical of many tattoo studios.

As this was the owner’s second shop, they were keen on creating a cozy ambience that set it apart from conventional parlours. After a short period of exploring, they decided on artificial greenery for this project. And fortunately – they called us!

The challenge was to design a space that maintained the edgy, artistic vibe crucial to their brand while incorporating a sense of tranquillity and comfort.

Was it a success? Just wait and see!

The Problem

Since they had already established a successful first location, the family aimed to create a distinctive atmosphere for their new studio.

Unlike the often intimidating vibe associated with tattoo studios, they wanted a calm and space where clients could be relaxed while getting a tattoo. And what relaxes a person more than nature?

While considering the layout of the space, the owner envisioned a more unconventional take on a tattoo shop. While that seemed like an easy feat, they faced the challenge of balancing the edgy aesthetic of their established brand with something more mellow.

They researched and came to a unanimous decision – to deck the studio in green. The owners had an idea to incorporate faux green walls, artificial palm trees, faux ferns, and fake hanging plants to contrast with the colours of their brand.

They got in their car and drove straight to our showroom in Braeside to talk with our team and look at their options.

During the Process

The most important feature of this task is that it’s a DIY project from start to finish. We’ve waxed poetic about our love for DIY installations because we simply love it when our clients know their way around the toolbox.

The family behind Full Spectrum Tattoo proved to be a handy bunch that’s hands-on and open about their DIY abilities.

They tackled the entire renovation themselves, from installing new flooring to painting the walls. When it came to adding greenery and imitation palm trees, they busted out their handpicked variety of artificial plants and sprinkled it in almost every empty corner.

The Solution

Understanding the importance of creating the perfect environment, the team at Full Spectrum Tattoo meticulously measured their walls to determine the exact number of panels needed.

If you’re doing something similar in the future, you can refer to our online panel calculator to ensure precision and avoid leftover foliage. Of course, we recommend you use the calculator only as a guide. Make sure to measure the walls more than once and double-check your measurements before buying your panels.

The studio got its hands on a wide array of faux foliage, from artificial ferns in many shapes and colours to faux vertical gardens and fake potted palm trees. All pieces of greenery have one thing in common – they’re striking against the dark walls and as low maintenance as can be.

To document their journey, the team created fun reels on Instagram and showcased their progress and the creative process behind the transformation.

With enthusiasm and creativity, they worked together to bring their vision to life, proving that tattoo artists are as much designers as they are creators of body art. You can follow their journey on their Instagram profile.

After the Process

The results of the project were nothing short of spectacular.

Although the studio is still a work in progress, the bulk of the transformation is complete, and the space has already exceeded the family’s expectations.

The combination of black walls with vibrant artificial greenery and faux palm trees has created a contrast that balances serenity and style. The owners were happy with the outcome, expressing their satisfaction with how the space turned out and telling us that “we’ll be back because we need a lot more for our second studio.

We’re confident this approach will yield equally impressive results in their other studio. And of course, we enjoyed working with them too!

Next Steps

We never thought our artificial greenery would find its way into a tattoo shop, but this project has proven there’s a first time for everything.

We were inspired by the vision the Full Spectrum Tattoo team brought to the table and are particularly impressed with how the black walls complement the lush artificial greenery.

We can’t wait to welcome them back to our store as they continue to enhance their studio with other products. And we’re very excited to see where their creativity takes them next.
